FUMC Westfield

An Inclusive Community of Faith

Our vision at FUMC is to foster an environment where children can develop relationships with God, the congregation, and each other in a community that promotes learning and spiritual growth in a safe place of belonging. Summer Service Exploration

Summer Service Exploration

Learning to Love Like Jesus!

We will gather on select Monday evenings from 5:30pm-7:30pm in July and August to explore how we can serve God through Learning to Love Like Jesus.  Come one week or all weeks, bring friends and have fun!  Each gathering will have a stand-alone focus and activity, but all weeks will involve ways we can serve.  Dinner and time for fellowship are part of each program. Over the course of the summer participants will create care packages for those in need of comfort, explore the feeding ministries of FUMC including our gardens to supply the Westfield Food Pantry, prepare a chancel drama or two for sharing with our congregation, discover ways to address issues of social justice, and prepare meals for some local agencies that provide food for those in need.

Schedule of dates of Learning to Love Like Jesus: 7/15 & 22, 8/19 & 26

Christian Education

Sunday School

Sunday School takes place most Sunday mornings at 9 AM for children from age 3 through 12th grade from September through May. A life-centered curriculum focuses on contemporary issues and biblical principles. Contact Nancy Anderson at nancya981@comcast.net for more information.

Sunday School will return in September!

Growing In Faith Together

The Growing In Faith Together group meets weekly during the Christian Education hour at 9AM in the first floor classroom near the entrance from the parking lot.  The class is for parents and their PreK children and is designed to provide an opportunity to get to know each other while providing activities to engage the children in fellowship and faith exploration.  Class leaders for the 2018-19 education year are Sarah Ashworth, Janice Gugliemi and Joyce Williams.

GIFT will return in September!

Music and Mission Sundays

On select Sundays through the school year, instead of our traditional Sunday School classes for children and youth at 9 AM, we will have a group program with a focus on music and mission activities, each with a different theme.

Childcare is provided from 8:45-11:15 AM on Sunday mornings for infants and toddlers. For more information please contact Amy Brodersen (gdbroder373@aol.com) or Pat Guglielmi (gmrsg@verizon.net).

Young Disciples

Young Disciples is an alternate sermon experience for children under 10, scheduled for most Sundays throughout the school year as part of the 10AM worship service. Children participating are invited to gather at the rear of the Sanctuary at a designated moment in the worship service. Parents are invited to escort their children to the space, Room 218, or allow them to travel with the group; children will return to the Sanctuary for communion and the sending forth.

The program encourages the children to take active leadership roles in worship, providing them with opportunities to be an acolyte, share prayers and sing songs, read and reflect upon the weekly scripture lesson and build their understanding of God’s love through worship and mission. Throughout the year, the group works on a variety of mission project activities and trains to take an active leadership role in the main worship on 5th Sundays and other youth-led worship services.

5th Sundays Youth Led Services

These youth led and adult mentored services are a great way for our children and youth to learn about the components of worship and provide them with opportunities to deepen their connection with God through worship leadership. Youth take on leadership roles for all aspects of these services: greeting and ushering, leading prayers and music, reading scripture and sharing a reflection or a chancel drama.

Youth Choir

All children are invited to participate in this choir that performs in worship a few times a year! Contact Jonathan Evers at music@fumcwestfield.org for more information.

Junior Youth Fellowship

Known as JYF, this group is open to children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The kids gather monthly during the school year for dinner and focus on faith, fellowship, and fun through conversation, games, and mission activities.

JYF will return in the fall!
