FUMC Westfield

An Inclusive Community of Faith

Our usual children’s programming is on hold due to COVID-19. Contact Marcee Rogers at mmrogers93@gmail.com for more information about current offerings for children!

Our vision at FUMC is to foster an environment where children can develop relationships with God, the congregation, and each other in a community that promotes learning and spiritual growth in a safe place of belonging. For more information about any of our programs or to find out how you can get involved, please contact Childrens Program Coordinator Marcee Rogers at mmrogers93@gmail.com or check out our Facebook Page!

Christian Education

Our Christian Education programming takes place most Sunday mornings at 9 AM for children from age 3 through 12th grade from September through May.

First Steps of Faith

Children in Kindergarten and below gather for fellowship and story time in rooms 106 & 107.  Each week, those gathered will be guided in age appropriate activities that introduce the children to the teachings of Jesus and stories of the Bible.  Parents are invited to join in the class or attend one of the adult education offerings.

Elementary Faith Explorers

Elementary aged children meet most Sundays in Room 207.  The study topics focus on how the teachings of Jesus connect to our daily lives. Parent support is needed throughout the year as the children learn to assist in worship services, prepare chancel dramas, and lead mission projects.

Youth Bible Study

Students in grades 6 and above meet throughout the school year in room 218.  The studies are connected to the revised common lectionary readings. The students also work on developing their skills as worship servants to volunteer as readers, to usher, and to deliver the sermonic lesson.

Childcare is provided on Sunday mornings throughout the school year during the education hour beginning at 8:45 AM in room 106/107 as part of our First Steps of Faith education program. Childcare for the 10AM worship service takes place in the Fellowship Room, where the service can be viewed on the television monitor. For more information please contact Amy Brodersen (gdbroder373@aol.com) or Pat Guglielmi (gmrsg@verizon.net).

Young Disciples

Young Disciples is an alternate sermon experience for children under 10, scheduled for most Sundays throughout the school year as part of the 10AM worship service. Children participating are invited to gather at the rear of the Sanctuary at a designated moment in the worship service. Parents are invited to escort their children to the space, Room 218, or allow them to travel with the group; children will return to the Sanctuary for communion and the sending forth.

The program encourages the children to take active leadership roles in worship, providing them with opportunities to be an acolyte, share prayers and sing songs, read and reflect upon the weekly scripture lesson and build their understanding of God’s love through worship and mission. Throughout the year, the group works on a variety of mission project activities and trains to take an active leadership role in the main worship on 5th Sundays and other youth-led worship services.

5th Sundays Youth Led Services

These youth led and adult mentored services are a great way for our children and youth to learn about the components of worship and provide them with opportunities to deepen their connection with God through worship leadership. Youth take on leadership roles for all aspects of these services: greeting and ushering, leading prayers and music, reading scripture and sharing a reflection or a chancel drama.

Youth Choir

All children are invited to participate in this choir that performs in worship a few times a year! Contact Jonathan Evers at music@fumcwestfield.org for more information.

Junior Youth Fellowship

Known as JYF, this group is open to children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The kids gather monthly during the school year for dinner and focus on faith, fellowship, and fun through conversation, games, and mission activities.
